Brandon Brown teaches American Government courses for SDI’s General Education track. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he currently works full-time as a data analytics specialist in the Bureau of Planning, Research, and Statistics of the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Political Science and International Relations, where his research specializes in American government and politics. Brandon also holds a M.A. in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Delaware, a M.S. in Political Science from Southern New Hampshire University, a B.A. in Political Science from Pennsylvania State University, and an A.A. in General Studies with a focus on politics, philosophy, and economics from Harrisburg Area Community College.

In his classroom biography, Brandon tells students that “My primary reason for attending graduate school was because I wanted to teach American government at the college level in an online setting. Here I am living the dream!” SDI held particular appeal for him as a teacher, because “what makes SDI so special is that I can shape the class around our beloved Second Amendment and current political events.” He focuses on delivering a quality civics education, and fostering student development of transferable academic skills. He says the thing he most enjoys about teaching is when students let him know they learned something new and valuable, and he loves getting requests from former students looking to go on to graduate school.

Outside of the classroom, Brandon’s tastes are pretty simple: “My perfect day would include sleeping in, spending quality time with my growing family throughout the day, eating a perfectly medium steak with steak fries and French onion soup for dinner, and finishing the evening with a gaming session or movie with my wife and daughters.” In his limited free time, he likes to handcraft Lucille replicas from the Walking Dead to sell on Etsy or play video games. His greatest passion (outside of his family) is the Constitution: “I enjoy teaching about Second Amendment case law throughout the American Government class here at SDI.Obtaining and sharing knowledge is truly my raison d’être. Ideally, I would love to make a dedicated class that focused on Second Amendment case law, legislation, and regulation at the state and federal levels.”
