From Struggle to Strategy
Kristen shared how she got her start in firearms training almost by accident. After moving from Virginia to Texas and struggling to find work, she launched her own business. That hustle led to the creation of WTF Kristen (Women Training Firearms), a platform designed to empower women with real, applicable handgun skills.
“I didn’t start a business because I wanted to. I started a business out of survival.”
Through WTF Kristen, she built a loyal following, eventually leading her to a full-time marketing role with Laser Ammo, where she combines her training background with digital strategy and product development.
Why Dry Fire Matters
Much of the conversation focused on dry fire training, a core part of Kristen’s instructional approach and a major offering at Laser Ammo.
“If you’re going to rely on a tool to save your life, shouldn’t you train with it more than once a year?”
Laser Ammo’s SureStrike laser cartridges, interactive IMTTS targets, and Smokeless Range simulator allow shooters to build muscle memory and confidence safely from home. Kristen explained how this style of training is not only budget-friendly and convenient, but also scalable for shooters at every level from brand new to competitive.
Women in the Industry: Breaking the Mold
Kristen brought candid insight into what it’s like being a woman in the firearms world, both on the range and behind the scenes. She shared experiences of being underestimated, and how she uses that as fuel to improve, compete, and educate.
“The more women we see in this space, the more women feel comfortable joining it. And the industry gets better for it.”
Her work has helped other women gain confidence in self-defense and firearms handling, and she’s made it a mission to break down barriers in how firearms education is delivered.
Laser Ammo and the Bigger Picture
In addition to her personal training, Kristen plays a major role in Laser Ammo’s product education and affiliate outreach. She discussed several new offerings like the Comp Shooter Pro and H&K line, and how Laser Ammo’s dry fire ecosystem helps users train smarter, from living room drills to law enforcement simulations.
“It’s not just gear. It’s a tool for getting better, no matter where you’re starting from.”
What This Means for SDI Students
Kristen’s journey mirrors the kind of student SDI often works with. Someone passionate about firearms, serious about learning, and ready to grow their impact. Her message to The Gun Rack listeners was clear:
“Dry fire builds comfort, control, and consistency. If you’re studying firearms or planning to build a career in this field, it’s one of the best ways to train smart and stay sharp.”
