I’d be willing to bet there are a few students and/or graduates of SDI who know about what you’re going to see here, but if you happen to not have any experience in the field of firing artillery, you’re in for a treat.
The United States Army itself published this demonstrative video on how to fire a particular artillery piece.
“What’s happening right now is that the cannoneer brings over the round and gets the round and the fuse verified, verified, load(ed),” the staff sergeant leading the demonstration explains to open the video.
“The charge comes off the back of the truck, gets verified by the chief – verified.”
“Right now,” he continued, “the cannoneers verify the bore’s clear and they ram the round.”
Once the round is loaded, the #2 cannoneer loads in the powder, he explained.
After that, things heat up pretty quickly. Check out the video above to catch the final action and watch the fireworks.
Our artillery operators are part of the force that gives our troops much-needed fire superiority. To our men and women who serve, we thank you!
