Every year, HIREVets awards companies for their efforts to recruit, retain and employ veterans. Sonoran Desert Institute’s parent company, Trade Training Company, LLC, was honored with the award status of Gold by HIREVets in 2020.
Only 675 companies were awarded this recognition in the United States, and Trade Training Company was one of 13 employers in Arizona to receive it! This is the only veteran employment award of its kind on the federal level, according to the official award letter.
The award is given to organizations who match a specific criteria of supporting veterans. There are nine total criteria taken into account for this award.
HIREVets criteria for awards consist of, but are not limited to:
- Percentage of new hires during the previous year that are veterans
- Percentage of veteran employees retained for a period of at least 12 months
- Employment of a dedicated human resources professional or initiatives to support hiring, training, and retention of veteran employees.
SDI’s Rob Howard, Director of Military and Veteran Services had this to say regarding winning gold: “Achieving this recognition was very important to me, aside from the opportunity to attract new talent and stand out within our industry. For me, this was a way to have SDI recognized outside of education to validate what our organization does daily.”
SDI has had a heavy focus on pouring into the veteran community, not only by hiring them, but by investing in them and empowering them for the future.
Rob Howard spoke for himself, the entire Department of Military and Veteran Services, and the entire school: “We recognize the value that veterans bring to SDI and continue to hire, retain, and support veteran employment.”
As an online school with a focus in firearms technology, SDI is proud of any award recognizing their (and of course Trade Training Company’s) attempt to make their school as veteran-friendly as possible. However, SDI is far more proud of the ability to continue to serve veteran and active duty soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines.
