Sonoran Desert Institute Announces New Certificate in Firearms Technology – Handgun Specialist Program.

Tempe, AZ [12/5/23] — Sonoran Desert Institute (SDI) has announced the launch of its new Certificate in Firearms Technology – Handgun Specialist (CFT-HS), expanding the school’s online certificate and degree program offerings. The new program consists of four courses, totaling 16 credit hours, and is designed to be completed in 20 weeks. It will provide students with an overview of three handgun platforms: revolvers, striker-fired pistols, and hammer-fired pistols

Students will receive three firearms coordinated with the onset of the platform’s course. Tools and materials are included in the program costs. The program includes the following courses:

  • FTT 101: Mechanics in Firearms, 4 Credit Hours
  • FTH 202: Revolvers, 4 Credit Hours
  • FTH 212: Striker-Fired Pistols, 4 Credit Hours
  • FTH 223: Hammer-Fired Pistols, 4 Credit Hours

Students must be at least 21 years of age to participate in FTH 202, FTH 212, and FTH 223.

The Certificate in Firearms Technology – Handgun Specialist program combines in-depth online coursework with practical, hands-on application at home. The new program expands the other Firearm Technology programs SDI offers. Students looking to hone their gunsmithing skills, learn the techniques needed to operate a gunsmithing business, gain a valuable credential, or expand their hobby into a career should consider the Certificate in Firearms Technology or the Associate of Science in Firearms Technology degree offerings.
