Glock 19 vs. 19X

The Glock 19 and 19X share a lot of similarities. At first glance, it’s difficult to pick out the subtle differences between the two. But in spite of their similarities, each of these pistols have some pretty defining features. Here’s a breakdown of the Glock 19 and the 19X, including how they’re different and how they’re the same.

Glock 19 vs. 19X: What’s the Same

Okay, let’s start off by going over the similarities between the Glock 19 and 19X. For one, both of these pistols are chambered in the ubiquitous 9x19mm cartridge. Invented by Austrian George Luger in 1901, it’s one of the most widely used small arms cartridges in the history of the world.

In addition, they have extremely similar slide assemblies. Both have a Glock 19 Gen5 slide, barrel, recoil spring assembly, and firing spring parts. This means that a Glock 19 and 19X have interchangeable slides.

However, just because they’re interchangeable doesn’t mean they’re the same—which leads us to our next topic.

Glock 19 vs. 19X: What’s Different

The main difference between the 19 and 19X slides is their sights. The 19X features night sights, which have 6.5 mm dots of tritium that naturally illuminate. This makes the 19X more usable in low-light conditions. The Glock 19X slide also doesn’t have front serrations, while the 19 Gen5 does.

By far the biggest difference between the Glock 19 and 19X is its frame. The Glock 19X has a full-sized frame (the same sized frame as a Glock 45). This gives it a bigger grip, and if you have large hands, it might feel more comfortable. It does, however, make the 19X a little less concealable. The 19X also has a tactical lanyard loop.

Finally, the Glock 19X only comes in a “coyote tan” color. The regular Glock 19 is black.
