Title: Faculty, School of Firearms Technology
Highest degree and school: MA, Public Administration, Grand Canyon University
Teaching at SDI since: 2018
Martin Edge brings a wealth of experience to his classes in the School of Firearms Technology. In addition to his combined thirteen years of service as an armorer in the British Army and Reserves, he holds numerous degrees in various fields, including Associates degrees in Industrial Design, Organizational Management, and General Business; Bachelors degrees in both Applied Management and Applied Behavioral Sciences; and a Masters degree in Public Administration. After his stint in the military, Martin worked for a company that rented firearms for the movie industry, and worked on films including Lord of War and District Nine. He has owned and operated his own armorer’s shop since 2018.
When asked what made him want to teach at SDI, Martin shared, “I want to be able to share the things I have learned over the years of working in this industry with people who are new to it.” Like many of his fellow faculty, he says his favorite part of teaching is seeing the “aha” moment when the students get the lesson being taught.
A native of South Africa who emigrated to the US in 2010, Martin is also a trained skydiver who enjoys the outdoors. His idea of a perfect day is one spent working on firearms animations, many of which can be seen throughout various courses in the SFT programs. If time weren’t a factor, he says he would like to learn more about how we learn and apply that knowledge to his teaching.
