Title: Faculty, General Education
Highest degree and school: Ph.D., Mathematics Education, Florida State University
Teaching at SDI since: 2018
Stacie Williams teaches Business Mathematics for SDI. A passionate educator, she has spent over 25 years teaching chemistry and mathematics at various institutions. After growing up in Oklahoma, Stacie relocated to Florida to attend Florida State University, where she earned her undergraduate degree in chemistry. She then continued her education at FSU, earning both her Masters and doctoral degrees in Mathematics Education.
When asked what she enjoys most about teaching, Stacie shared, “I love seeing the students realize they CAN do math.” She noted that many students have unfortunate experiences with mathematics early in their education which then carry over into adulthood, so helping students overcome those experiences is greatly rewarding. She chose to work with SDI because she sees it as a unique institution with a unique student body, and finds it a really great place to work.
Outside of the classroom, Stacie is a big fan of Disney, the Olympics, and the beach (especially ones in Hawaii). She trains in Krav Maga, a form of martial arts that combines techniques from boxing, judo, karate, aikido, and wrestling. Her idea of a perfect day is spending time out in nature relaxing with her son and two Maltese puppies, feeling healthy and enjoying some coffee or chocolate. And she’s always learning more about something, whether it’s personality types, real estate investments, science discoveries, or whatever catches her interest.
