Sonoran Desert Institute has demonstrated the ability to meet criteria for academic and consumer right standards from federal and state agencies as well as non-governmental agencies. These standards ensure quality education through sound financial operations, approved programs of study, qualified instructors, and approved recruitment and admissions policies. Reviews and renewals of accreditation are conducted periodically as required.

Sonoran Desert Institute is accredited by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission (DEAC) and is approved to operate in the State of Arizona by the Arizona State Board for Private Post secondary Education. Information about all accreditation and approval agencies is listed below:

A national advocate and institutional voice for self-regulation of academic quality through accreditation, CHEA is an association of 3,000 degree-granting colleges and universities and recognizes 60 institutional and programmatic accrediting organizations.


Approvals have been granted from the following agencies:

Several SDI programs are approved for active duty military to participate in the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) Education Services Program.

The Yavapai County, Arizona Local Workforce Investment Board has approved several programs from the Institute. This approval is valid statewide and allows qualified students to receive funding under Workforce Investment Act (WIA) tuition programs

SDI is a member of the Council of College and Military Educators (CCME). CCME is an active proponent for the professional development of those serving in the military education community by providing a forum for the exchange of information on educational programs, strategies and innovation among its members and associated partners. CCME membership is composed of military educators, civilian educators, post secondary educational institutions, and suppliers of quality education products and services. CCME’s mission is to promote and provide educational programs and services and to facilitate communication between the membership and the DoD educational support network.

SDI is honored to be a sponsor of the National Guard Association of South Carolina (NGASC). NGASC is the professional voice of active and retired South Carolina Air and Army National Guard members. It serves as the local arm of the National Guard Association of the Unites States to represent and protect the interest of our nation’s defense and South Carolina Citizen Soldiers. NGASC seeks to provide a strong, united voice from which the needs of the Guard can be heard. The NGASC is not military; it is instead an organization of military people dedicated to a strong national defense. Today it continues to deliver what it promised from the beginning – representation of citizen soldiers to maintain the Guard as an effective national defense element and state emergency asset.
