SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society: Celebrating Service and Academic Achievement
SALUTE stands for Service, Academics, Leadership, Unity, Tribute, and Excellence. It is the first national honor society established to recognize and honor the academic achievements of student veterans and military members attending two- and four-year institutions of higher education.
As a student at Sonoran Desert Institute (SDI) and a member of the U.S. Armed Forces, your commitment to both service and scholarship deserves recognition. SALUTE provides a prestigious platform to celebrate your accomplishments and connect you with a nationwide community of fellow service members striving for academic excellence.

Membership Criteria (Undergraduate Students)
Membership in SALUTE requires a one-time lifetime membership fee; a link for payment will be emailed to you upon acceptance.
To be eligible for induction into SALUTE at SDI, applicants must meet the following requirement:
- Be currently enrolled in or a graduate of the SDI’s Associate of Science in Firearms Technology or Associate of Science in Uncrewed Technology degree program.
- Be in good financial standing with the institution.
- Have completed a minimum of 12 course credits at SDI (transferred credit does not apply).
- Hold a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Be currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces (Active Duty, National Guard, or Reserves) or be a veteran with an Honorable discharge.
Membership Fee & Benefits
Once your application has been verified and approved, you will receive a secure link to pay the one-time, lifetime membership fee of $35. Payment must be submitted and posted to your account before the appropriate submission deadline.
As a member, you will receive:
- An official SALUTE membership certificate
- A military-style challenge coin
These items serve as lasting symbols of your achievement and affiliation.
Application Timelines and Key Dates
Approved applications and membership fees are submitted to the SALUTE National Office three times per year, in accordance with the following deadlines:
- Fall Deadline: October 1
- Spring Deadline: March 1
- Summer Deadline: July 1
Completed membership packets and payments are submitted for processing by the next available deadline following verification. Applicants who do not meet the upcoming deadline risk having their offer of membership rescinded. Timely submission is essential to ensure inclusion in the appropriate cycle.
Please allow 4-6 weeks after the submission deadline to receive your official SALUTE membership certificate and military-style challenge coin.
