A true man of all trades, Tim Courtot teaches across all programs at SDI. He currently teaches FTT 231 Machining and Manufacturing of Firearms for the School of Firearms Technology, UET 101 Introduction to Engineering Technology for the School of Uncrewed Technology, and Business Mathematics under SDI’s General Education courses. Tim’s education is extensive: he earned his Doctorate in Strategic Leadership in November 2022, and also holds a Master’s Degree in Business, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Management, Business, and Organizational Leadership, and a Certificate in Machining. He has worked in machining and manufacturing for nearly 30 years, spending time as a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) programmer/team lead and as a Manufacturing Engineer. In 2017, he was granted a U.S. Patent that focused on selective firing for a firearm.

After so many years in industry, Tim says his favorite parts of teaching are dually having a more flexible schedule and being able to share his experience with the next generation of learners: “SDI offered a platform and subjects that were well aligned with my experience. I have been a machinist for over 25 years and SDI provided me an opportunity to teach students about my experiences and knowledge of the subject.”

Outside of the classroom, Tim enjoys home improvement projects and restoring classic vehicles; he proudly owns a ‘56 Chevy Convertible and an ‘86 Fiero (“with a V-8!”). Since completing his doctorate, he has continued his educational journey by starting toward his Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and “would like to learn more about the academic world from an administrative perspective.” He said his perfect day would be having a day of relaxation.
