We’ve all been there. Working at the same task for hours while we cram for an exam or some other important test. Eventually though, burnout starts to set in. It’s only natural – diminishing returns and all that. But don’t give up, rather give yourself a break and air out your brain. Study breaks can actually have some huge benefits. In this post, we’ll look at some great ideas for a study break.
Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Study Breaks
Need some ideas for your next study break? We’ve got you covered. Check out some of these study breaks for inspiration. Just remember one important thing: social media time doesn’t count as a study break, according to the experts at Cornell.
Instead, you’ll want to focus on taking “purposeful breaks.” These kinds of activities can increase your ability to focus, boost energy, inspire creativity, and refresh your overall mental function.
Take a Walk
Here’s a classic way to air your brain out during a long study session. For shorter walks, a stroll around the block will suffice. If you have a little bit of time, see if you can get into nature. Nature can have a significant, positive impact on your overall mental wellbeing. In fact, the Japanese have been prescribing “Forest Baths” for countless ailments for ages.

Power Naps
Power naps are a pretty polarizing subject. In one camp, their supporters swear by them. In the other, their detractors decry them. But some experts do agree that power naps may have some benefits. Just make sure to keep them under 15-20 minutes long. Otherwise, your body will begin descending into a deeper sleep making you more tired when you wake up.
Stretch/Exercise
We mentioned that taking a walk is a great way to clear your mind. But here’s a way you can take that concept a step further. Exercising and stretching can help your brain deal with anxiety and stress. This, in turn, can help you focus better when you come back from a study break. Even if you don’t have access to a gym, you can do plenty with just your body weight. Burpees alone can make a great study break exercise.
These obviously aren’t an exhaustive list of study break activities. However, they’re some of the easiest and most effective. Try them out for yourself!
